Jake Roberts recalls Vince McMahon ending his feud with Hulk Hogan

During a recent episode of the DDP Snake Pit Podcast, Jake “The Snake” Roberts opened up about his infamous “snakepit” segments with Hulk Hogan. Roberts revealed that he was so angry with Hogan because of the size of his pythons that he once got so angry he punched a DDT on him which split the Hulk’s skull open.

“We did a Snakepit thing and he’s talking, I’m like, ‘Well, what do you think of a python?’ He’s like ‘the biggest pythons in the world are here,’ and he does his shit,” Roberts said. “And you know, it kept going and I was like, next week we’ll have a tape measure. We’ll see who has the biggest pythons. So next week they’ve set up a weigh-in so Hogan can So we measured his arms, it was a tape gimmick.

“21, I measure the snake, 21 and a half. So Hogan lies down on the bench and starts training. Measure again, 21 and a half is the same as the snake. He said, ‘Brother, these pythons are going to swell a little more’. And he starts training again. Well, I’m pissed, so I gave him a DDT, which had the same result as with Steamboat. Crack his head open, you know, he’s lying there bleeding, I’m leaving the set.

During a previous episode of the podcast, Jake Roberts opened up about being offered the role that Pat Patterson held with WWE for decades by Vince McMahon, who later rescinded the offer. The WWE Hall of Famer also spoke about wrestlers using his finishing move as a regular move, saying he had no problem with DDT as a transition move. opened up about Vince’s reaction to his segment with Hogan on the “snakepit,” revealing he was very happy with Roberts until he revealed fans cheered him on Hogan.

“I leave the set backwards, Vince grabs me and hugs me, ‘oh Jake this is going to be beautiful! Oh my God the money you’re going to make,’ Roberts said. “And I’m sitting there saying, ‘finally, finally my dream man, it’s happening, thank you, Jesus. I piss myself. I am so happy. He says, ‘stay here with me’. I go, ‘what for?’ He says, ‘people, they’re going to start singing Hulk, Hulk Hulk. He’ll get up, he’ll rip off his shirt, he’ll scream, beat his chest and he’ll come get you. We’re talking about going straight to the bank with all of this. Jack, thank you”.

“And he shakes my hand. We stand there and we stand there. Then Vince starts looking around to find out what’s going on. He looks outside, Hogan waits for people to start singing. People did. They started chanting “DDT, DDT”. And Vince said, ‘you’re screwed. ‘What do you mean I’m screwed?’ He says, ‘That’s not what we want.’

“The Snake” said he and Hogan had some chances to sell out shows and reveals what the results were. Jake Roberts said that no matter how much he and Hogan sold shows, it was about marketing and marketing WWE’s biggest star at the time.

“So they gave us a couple shots, they sent us to Portland, Maine, sold out, set the record,” Roberts said. “I went to Montreal, sold out when there hadn’t been for years before. Sold it, sent it back, no cameras. Here’s what happened in the matches. “DDT, DDT”. Vince says, ‘that’s it, no more’. “What do you mean by more, we’re sold, we’ve turned people down”. He says, “I don’t give a fuck, that’s not what this is about.” How much better can you get than a sale? WWE didn’t care about sales. It’s all about marketing, that’s where the money is. Vince used to say he didn’t care how many people came into the building.
