Much of the modern web would be very different without JavaScript, the authorized programming language for interactive elements to add to your favorite websites. Features such as chat boxes, audio and video players and infinite scrolling are just a few examples examples of what JavaScript has added to our lives.

When should you turn off JavaScript?

NOTnot everyone wants to run websites with JavaScript enabled. TThe dark side of these features is the additional tracking, automatic video playback, numerous annoyances that change scrolling behavior, and more. By turning off JavaScript, you can turn off infinite scrolling on most websites, which is a big deal if you’re trying to cut down on screen time. Other benefits of disabling JavaScript include reduced tracking, ad blocking, and bypass paying walls so you can read articles online for free.

Even if you want to turn off JavaScript, your options are limited as most websites depend on it. Some websites may crash completely, while others can revert to basic HTML just like Gmail does when your internet connection is slow. We have already explained how disable JavaScript on desktop browsers, and now it’s time to take a look at doing the same on mobile.

Before we begin, we need to inform you that many popular mobile browsers do not allow you to block JavaScript. For example, Firefox on Android or iPhone does not have this feature. That said, the two most popular browsers on iPhone and Android, Safari and Google Chrome, allow you to turn off JavaScript, so here is how to do it.

If you are using Chrome on Android, open the browser and press the three points icon in the upper right corner. You can then go to Settings> Site settings> JavaScript. Deactivate Javascript here to get rid of it in Google Chrome on Android. On the same page, you can press Add a site exception, type the URL and press Add to allow JavaScript to run on specific websites.

Unfortunately, Chrome on iPhone does not allow you to turn off JavaScript.
